International Press Conference Outline ASHGABAT 2017 Planning Progress

An international press conference took place at the 5th AIMAG Executive Committee Headquarters to highlight the progress made in the preparation for the Games.
The conference served to explain the key factors of delivery that have been implemented so far and the next steps in the Games operational plan.
Key speakers included Mick Wright - CCOO 5th AIMAG Executive Committee, Ata Akmammedov - Head of Sport 5th AIMAG Executive Committee and Rovshen Kemdjayev from Turkmenistan State Committee of Sport.
Excitement builds across the country as we enter the year of the games, and in regards Ata Akmammedov said: “The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be the first ever international multi-sport competition that Turkmenistan has hosted. It is a great opportunity to promote Turkmenistan as a country of sports and a big responsibility as hosts of the Games.”
Extensive progress has been made over the last six months in developing assets that will play a key role in the delivery of the Games, commenting on the recent launch of the Ashgabat 2017 brand Mick Wright said: “The brand takes us on a journey along the silk route and a mascot that is distinctive and unique to Turkmenistan. We look forward to bringing the city to life with this brand in September”
As part of the testing and readiness exercises ahead of the Games test events are a fundamental step, on the oncoming plans Mick Wright commented: “It is intended to request a Presidential decree to enable us to host a cluster of test events – that is more than one test event at the same time - in April. Our intention is to test our principles of how we will run the overall Ashgabat Olympic Complex with concurrent multi sport event mode. The sports and dates in the process of being confirmed and will be formally announced as soon as they are.
“Finally, one of the most important things for a multi sport event is the development of the Sport Competition schedule. We now have a high level competition schedule for the Games with Sports allocated to venues and days and sessions outlined and when the detailed schedule has been agreed this will formally be announced.”
Building the Executive Committee’s capability will be a fundamental factor to guarantee the success of Ashgabat 2107 and recruitment and training of 400 local Turkman nationals has now commenced. “This innovative recruitment and development learning programme will develop the skills and Games knowledge of the Executive committee’s employees as part of a lasting legacy to develop the major event leaders of the future here in Turkmenistan.
“The Games Academy 400 people will fulfil key roles in the Executive Committee and they will be mentored by our leading international experts, receiving on the job training in the planning and operations involved in delivering a major event.”
This will be overall a very important year for Turkmen sport, commenting on the development the country’s sport and the preparation for the Games Rovshen Kemdjayev said: “The Games represent a great opportunity for Turkmen sport as a whole. Our athletes are working very hard to prepare for the occasion and to achieve the best possible results at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. Test events will play a fundamental role in the preparation of our athletes and their familiarization with the venues.”
Many announcements will be made over the next few months as the preparation for the Games continues with the aim of hosting the best AIMAG ever.
